Firmer Loe, 29, dies in cycle-car accident
Police are continuing to investigate a Sunday morning motorcycle-car crash on Lincolnway East that claimed the life of a South Whitley resident.
Firmer E. Loe, 29, 503 Flint St. South Whitley, was killed at 3:32 a.m. Sunday when his 1983 Honda VF1100 slammed into a stopped car that was delivering morning newspapers. Loe was thrown 113 feet from the point of impact and was dead at the scene from internal injuries.
Whitley County Deputy Sheriff Robert Schrader said the accident investigation was continuing and a supplemental report would be filed soon.
According to preliminary police reports, Loe was driving his motorcycle westbound on Lincolnway East, about one-half mile east of CR 500 E. Stopped on the northside of the roadway and facing east was a 1976 Ford Ranchero operated by Albert E. Smith, 34, 24 Jeffrey drive, Columbia City. Smith was delivering a morning newspaper at the home of Larry Brandon.
As Loe approached the stopped car, he went off the north side of Lincolnway at a point 33 feet in front of the vehicle. The motorcycle crashed into the left front of the car, ejecting Loe 113 feet. After striking the car, the motorcycle flipped, struck a tree and spun into a utility pole.
Smith complained of leg pain after the car was hit. He refused medical treatment. The car, registered to Juanita M. Begue, R 4 Columbia City, received about $1000 damage to its left front.
The motorcycle was totaled.
Investigating the traffic fatality, Whitley County's ninth of the year, were Schrader, Reserve deputy Scott Smith, and State Trooper Rockey Stotts.

Tractor Upsets, 18-Year-Old Tim Cramer Is Killed
A farm tractor accident late Monday afternoon claimed the life of 18-year-old Timothy R. Cramer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dale Cramer, R 2.
Cramer, who would have been a senior this fall at Columbia City Joint High School, was entering the drive at the Donald Woll farm on 300-W, 3.7 miles west of Columbia City, when the tractor he was driving flipped over and pinned him underneath.
Earlier in the afternoon the youth had been helping to cut hay at the Jay Crawford farm 1/2 mile south of Columbia City and was delayed in leaving for the Woll farm when he emcountered a flat tire. He was reportedly almost three hours late when he left for the Woll farm, traveling Old Trail Road to 300-W, and turning north to reach the farm, located on the west side of the road.
Cramer apparently turned too sharply into the Woll drive when he arrived about 5:55 p.m. and was traveling fast enough (about 20 mph) that it caused the tractor to go out of control, flip over, and pin him underneath.
While a Smith and Son ambulance was en route, the tractor was lifted from the youth by a scoop attached to the front of another tractor.
The unconscious youth was taken to the Whitley County Hospital and then transferred to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 6:45 p.m. from extensive head and chest injuries, a fractured left arm and shock.
Damage to the 1968 John Deere 4020 farm tractor owned by his father, was estimated at $3,000 to both fenders, seat, hood, steering wheel, muffler system. Damage to three rods of fence and metal gate at the Woll farm was estimated at $125.
Investigating were state Troopers, Hugh L. Geiger and Frank Kessler.
Timothy R. Cramer was born on May 20, 1956 in Whitley County Hospital, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dale and Bethelene Blanchard Cramer. The family has resided on a farm about four miles south of Columbia City on Ind. 9 for the past 11 years.
He was a member of the Future Farmers of America.
Surviving besides the parents are two sisters, Mrs. Randall Lee (Pepper) Krider, city, now on a honeymoon following her marriage just last Friday and believed to be in the Black Hills in South Dakota; Miss Ginger Cramer, at home, a CCJHS senior, a half-sister, Mrs. Timothy (Floy Lea) Heidenreich, Huntington; a half-brother, Alan Dale Cramer, at home, paternal grandmother, Mrs. Nora Mae Ray, Elkhart; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lewis (Mildred) Blanchard, City.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, the Rev. Jim Martin, pastor of the Oak Grove Church of God, officiating.

Young Mother Dies In Two-Car Crash
Whitley county's 15th 1972 traffic death occurred at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday on County Road 350-W, nine-tenths of a mile north of Lorane, when Mrs. Patricia Ann Clem, 26, of R 6, died in the Whitley County Hospital emergency room of injuries she suffered in a 11:55 a.m. collision which took place on a hillcrest.
She was the wife of Thomas Clem and mother of three children.
Three others were hurt in the collision.According to Dr. W.L. Niccum, coroner, Mrs. Clem died of a ruptured spleen and splenic artery, head injuries, multiple lacerations and fractures including those to her right knee and left elbow. To replace blood lost by internal bleeding, a blood run was made but the emergency blood arrived to late to aid the victim.
With Mrs. Clem, northbound, were her 18-month-old son, Thomas Scott, and 3-year-old Mike Wellbrown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Wallbrown, R 6. They were both admitted to Whitley County Hospital in "good" condition.
Thomas Scott Clem, the 18-month-old son, suffered a broken nose , facial lacerations and chest injuries. The Wallbrown boy suffered lacerations to his face. Mrs. Clem was babysitting for the Wallbrown boy.
The other driver, Mrs. Anne F. Holsclaw, 42, of R 6, was treated and released for facial lacerations and cuts to her left knee.
According to State Trooper Frank Kessler, aided in the accident investigation by Deputy Sheriff Larry Helfrich, Mrs. Holsclaw was southbound on County Road 350-W when the vehicles collided in the center of the road.
The Clem car was northbound.
While the accident remains under investigation, Trooper Kessler said today that apparently Mrs. Clem's car had protruded a little across the highway's centerline and at the last second Mrs. Clem steered to the right to bring the vehicle completely back into the northbound lane. But the sideswipe collision resulted with the southbound Holsclaw car. The Clem car was struckin the area of the left front wheel and left door. Mrs. Clem was not using her seat belt, it was reported.
The injured were brought to the hospital in the Hollingsworth ambulance.
Was County Native
Mrs. Clem was a Whitley county native, born on Oct. 18, 1945 in Columbia City to Charles and Helen Gebert Wolfe. She was married to Thomas Clem in Larwill on March 21, 1969.
they lived in Larwill, then in Columbia City for eight months, then moved to Richland township and then moved to their present residence in Etna-Troy township.
Surviving are the husband; one son, Thomas Scott who was hurt in the accident; two daughters, Deborah Ann Sellers, 10, and Tona Kay Sellers, 7, both at home; her father, Charles Wolfe, Larwill; her stepfather, and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Wolfe, Larwill; one brother, Robert Wolfe, Leesburg R 1; two sisters, Mrs. Russell (Barbara) Hursey, Larwill, and Mrs. Arthur (Mary Lou) Loe, Larwill.

Clem Rites
The memorial services for Mrs. Thomas Clem, 26, Etna-Troy township victim of a two-car headon collision, were held Friday afternoon in the chapel of the J. A. DeMoney & Son Funeral Home. Committal rites and interment followed at the Oak Grove (Compton) cemetery, Columbia township.
The Rev. Hubert E. Miller, pastor of the First Church of God, conducted the services. Two hymns, In The Garden and Beyond The Sunset, were sung by Charles N. Harker. His organ accompaniment was played by Mrs. B. V. Widney, who also played a medley of Hymns for the prelude and postlude music.
The casket bearers, relatives and close friends of Mrs. Clem and her family, were Roger Mitshell, Marvin Clem, Michael Taulbee, Clifford Bowers, Eugene trent and Russell Hursey.
Mrs. Clem, the former Patricia Ann Wolfe, died Tuesday afternoon at the local hospital of injuries sustained in the accident.
Corrections: Patricia was born in Kosciusko County, Indiana and she was born November 18, 1945.
Family members stated that the Police told them that it was easier to blame the dead person instead of the living that is why Patricia was blamed for the accident but if you read this carefully you can see who was at fault. I can remember riding with aunt Pat and she drove real close to the ditch she never crossed the center line and other family members told me she did the same as I remembered.
After the accident Mrs. Holsclaw left the state in fear she would get sued. It was also said when the accident occured she ran to a nearby house hollering she killed a lady.
