General Notes: Florence Maria Gradeless, 83, 410 N. Oak St., died Monday, Dec. 26, at 1:15 p.m. in Whitley County Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Nov. 23.
Mrs. Gradeless had been in failing health for several years.
A native of Huntington County, she was born on Feb. 24, 1900, a daughter of Charles and Sarah Cormany Simon. When a young girl, she moved with her family to Jefferson Township, Whitley County. She received her education in the Groundhog School and the Laud School.
On April 23, 1921, she was married to Calvin E. Mosher, and their first home was on a farm near the Columbia Township school. The pair later moved to a farm on Ind. 114 in Jefferson Township.
Mr. Mosher died on Sept. 23, 1949. Following his death, Mrs. Gradeless sold the farm and moved to Columbia City. On Aug. 4, 1951, she was married to Cecil Gradeless. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1960.
Mrs. Gradeless was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, the Eagles Auxillary, the American Legion Auxillary, the Bethel Rebekah Lodge and the Eberhard Ladies Aid.
Surviving relatives include two brothers, Howard Simon and Carl Simon, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Walker, Mrs. Ruth Grabach and Mrs. Gertrude Snepp, all Columbia City. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Eldon, Jesse and Burtis, and three sisters Alma, Elva and Gladys.
Visitation will be at the Smith & Sons Funeral Home today after 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Newell S. Nelson pastor of the Grace Lutheran Church, officiating. The interment will be in the Eberhard Cemetery.

Gladys Grabach
Mrs. Gladys R. Grabach, 75, R 2, Laud, died at 6:44 a.m. today, May 6, at Whitley County Hospital following admission on Monday evening. She became suddenly ill and was taken to the intensive care unit of the hospital by EMS. Mrs. Grabach had been recieving treatment for a heart condition for the past several years.
She was a native of Huntington county, and was born on August 4, 1904, a daughter of Charles and Sarah Cormany Simon. Her formative years were spent in the Laud community where she was educated in the Laud School.
On June 16, 1925, she was united in marriage to William H. Grabach. They established their home in Fort Wayne where they resided until moving to Laud in 1947. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed at the Kresge Store in Fort Wayne.
Her husband preceded her in death on September 10, 1969.
Mrs. Grabach was a member of the Laud Christian Church.
The surviving relatives include two sons, Harold L. Grabach, New Haven and Charles G. Grabach, R 2; one daughter, Mrs. Max (Gwendolyn) Bowers, R 2; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard Simon and Carl Simon, both of Columbia City; four sisters, Mrs. Florence Gradeless, Mrs. Mary E. Walker, Mrs. Ruth Grabach, Mrs. Gertrude Snepp, all of Columbia City.
The body is at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home where friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. James Clifford, pastor of the Laud Christian Church, will officiate at the funeral Thursday morning at 10:30 at the Laud Christian Church.
Interment will be in the Pleasant Chapel (Simon) cemetery.

Ruth Alice Grabach, 87, died at 5 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 1999, at Whitley Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient the past week.
Born November 25, 1911, in Laud, a daughter of Charles Henry and Sarah Alminda Cormany Simon, her education was completed at Jefferson Center High School.
Her first marriage was to Charles Wooten. He died February 16, 1958. In September 1958, she married Everett L. "Blackie" Grabach Sr. He died November 21, 1993. With the exception of a brief period in Birchwood, Wis., all her married life was spent at the same address in Columbia City.
She was a member of Columbia City Church of the Nazarene, Eagles Auxiliary 1906 and Ruth Rebekah Lodge.
Surviving relatives include a step-son Jack E. Grabach, New Haven; two step-daughters, Josephine E. Travis, Laud, and Sandra L. Kyler; a daughter-in-law, Lula B. Wooten; a sister, Gertrude Snepp., all of Columbia City; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, Glen H. Wooten and Ralph A. Wooten; five sisters, Mary, Alma, Florence, Gladys and Elva; a step-son, Everett, a step-daughter, Pearl; two grandsons and a great-grandchild.
The funeral service begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City, with Pastor Thomas Beers of Columbia City Church of the Nazarene.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial is at Pleasant Chapel Cemetery, Huntington County.

Dale E. Loe, 53, a resident at Park Terrace Apartments, collapsed while walking along a city street on Monday, Jan. 29, 1992. He was taken by EMS to Whitley County Memorial Hospital and died at 11:45 a.m. Mr. Loe was born Dec. 26, 1938, in Whitley County, a son of James and Olive DeWitt Loe. When he was a young boy, his family moved to Huntington County and he was educated at Roanoke School. In 1955 he moved to Larwill and in 1983 to Columbia City.
On July 26, 1985, he was married to Evelyn May. They have always lived in Columbia City. Mr. Loe had been employed by Passages inc. and recently by Fiber Form.
Surviving are his wife Evelyn; brothers James of Plymouth, Franklin of Roanoke and Arthur of Larwill; sisters Imogene Tylerof Huntington, Mrs. Arthur (Netha) Walter of Columbia City. Mrs. Paul (Patricia) Ulrey of Warsaw, Mrs. Leo (Alice) Mort, Pierceton and Mrs. Kenneth (Catherine) Sheets of Larwill.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Smith and Sons Funeral home in Columbia City with the Rev. Gene Kinney, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 9 p.m. today.
Burial will be at South Whitley Cemetery.

DeWitt Child Dies; Swallows Mother's Medication
Edwith DeWitt, two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence DeWitt of near Grabill, former residence of near Arcola, died last night at 5:30 o,clock at St. Joseph Hospital after she swallowed some medicine for blood pressure prescribed for her mother.
She fell asleep after swallowing the medicine and later became violently ill when she was awakeded. The child died soon after being admitted to the hospital.
Dr. H. Paul Miller, Allen County Coroner said he would return a verdict of accidental death in the case.
The child is survived by its parents, four brothers, David, Eldon, Lloyd and LeRoy; its grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D.O. DeWitt of near Churubusco.
Funeral services will be held at the Krider Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday, Rev. LaVerne Skinner officiating. Committal will be held in South Park cemetery south of Columbia City. Friends will be received at the Krider Funeral Home after 8 o'clock tonight.

Mrs. Huffman retired in 1997 from the Square D Company after 35 years of service.

Harvey E. DeWitt, 66, of R 2 Churubusco, died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Fort Wayne. He had been ill four years.

Evelyn M. Eytcheson, 89, a former resident of Eel River Township near Churubusco and more recently of Columbia City, died at 7:45 p. m. on Sunday, December 13, 2009, at the residence of her daughter in Columbia City. She had been in declining health since June.
Mrs. Eytcheson was born on March 22, 1920 in Huntington, a daughter of David Oliver and Cerena Ardesa (Cormany) DeWitt, and spent her formative years in the Arcola-area.
On April 3, 1937 she was married in Ligonier to Wilbur D. "Boob" Eytcheson, and spent her adult life in Eel River Township in Allen County until moving to Columbia City seven years ago.
Well known as a waitress in Churubusco, she had worked at the former Pat's Cafe and was later employed at the Magic Wand Restaurant. She was a member of the Jim Eby Veteran's of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 857 in Fort Wayne, and the Gilbert Davis American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 157 in Churubusco.
Mr. Eytcheson preceded her in death on October 16, 1973.
The surviving relatives include her two daughters Marilyn (Kenneth) Frazier of Churubusco and Doris Jones of Columbia City. There are six grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-gret-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Friday, December 18, 2009, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastor Bob Courtney, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p. m. Thursday at the mortuary, or one hour prior to the service Friday.
Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

Thad A. Huntley, 27, of 1823 Griswold Drive, Fort Wayne, son of Roy and Vivian Huntley, was found dead Monday, March 31, at his Fort Wayne home. His death was discovered after he did not report for work. An autopsy is being conducted.
Mr. Huntley was born Jan. 17, 1959, in Columbia City, to Roy and Vivian Walker Huntley. He attended grade school in Columbia City and graduated from Columbia City Joint High School. He resided in Columbia City until moving to Fort Wayne three years ago.
Mr. Huntley was employed as a route supervisor at Pure Seal Dairy in Fort Wayne. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and was active in bowling leagues.
Surviving are his parents, Roy and Vivian Huntley of 401 N. Oak St., Columbia City; a brother Lee a student at Purdue University; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Claudia) Knight of Leander, Texas; and his grandmother Mary E. Walker of 403 N. Oak St., Columbia City.
Friends may call at Hollingsworth Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The service will be at the chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Berniece Herr, pastor of West Point United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be at Simon Cemetery in Huntington County. The family asks memorials be made to the Columbia City Little League Baseball Fund.

Harold L. Grabach, 75, a former Columbia City area resident, died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 1996, at his home in New Haven. He had been in failing health for several years.
He was born on May 24, 1921, in Laud, a son of William H. and Gladys R. Simon Grabach. He attended school at the Laud Grade School, the Washington Center and Jefferson Center Schools and the Fort Wayne Central High School.
After completing his education, he entered the U.S. Army Air Force and served in the 386 Fighter Squadron, "Hell Hawks" as a crew chief.
After his discharge from the military, he was first wmployed by the Whitley Products Company in Columbia City for 10 years. Mr. Grabach retired from W.S. Shamban Company in Fort Wayne where he held management position with 20 years of service.
On January 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to Ruby Marceil Osborn and they made their first home in Tri Lakes and in 1947, moved to South Whitley, then in 1955, moved to California. Since September 1956, they have made their home in the New Haven area.
He was a member of the Brookside Community Church, the New Haven American Legion Post #330, the VFW Post #2457 and the Indiana Sheriff's Association.
The surviving relatives include his wife, Marceil, two sons, Jimmy L. Grabach, in California, Larry H. Grabach, Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Angela K.) Hernandez, New haven; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a brother, Charles Grabach, Fort Wayne; and a sister, Gwendolyn Bowers, Laud.
The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the Brookside Community Church, 6102 Evard Road, Fort Wayne, with pastor John R. Stubhar officiating.
Burial will be at the New Haven I.O.O.F. Cemetery with the American Legion Post # 330 presenting military honors.
The visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, and after 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

Gwendolyn G. Bowers, 74, died at 10:05 p.m., Sunday, July 29, 2001 at her home in Laud.
She was born February 9, 1927 in Fort Wayne, Indiana a daughter of William H. and Gladys R. Simon Grabach. She attende first grade in Laud and completed her education in Fort Wayne.
On July 26, 1947 she was united in marriage to Max L. Bowers. They made their home in Wawasee, later to Fort Wayne for two years and in 1955 to their present home in Laud.
She retired in 1982 from Alcoils with 12 years of service.
She was a member of Laud Christian Church, Charter member of V.F.W. # 5582 Auxiliary and member of American Legion Post #253 Auxiliary in North Webster.
She is survived by her husband, Max Sr.; two sons, Leston King of Franklin, LA and Max (Lisa) Bowers Jr. of Churubusco; a daughter, Mrs. Milton (Marsha) Grabner of Columbia City; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Grabach of New Haven.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Herbert Grabach and Harold Grabach.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at Smithand Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. James Clifford officiating. The burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born in Fort Wayne, he was a member of Laud Christian Church and a U.S. Army veteran.
He was owner and operator of the C & E Sales Company of Columbia City for a number of years and had worked at Zollner Corp. of Fort Wayne,
Survivors include his children, Pat (David) Reibs of Fort Wayne; Tim (Elaine) Grabach of Sacramento, Calif.; Chuck (Marjorie) Grabach of Columbia City; and Carol (Steve) Massey of Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elke in 1977; a son, John; a grandson; two brothers and a sister.
A memorial service is at 4 p.m. Friday at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 405 W. Wayne St. Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior to the service. Burial is at Pleasant Chapel Cemetery, Roanoke.

Infant Son Of Grabachs Dies In West Berlin
Word has been recieved here of the death of infant John Thomas Grabach, son of Sgt. and Mrs. Charles G. Grabach, at the U.S. Army Base Hospital in West Berlin, Germany. According to the word recieved by the local office of the American Red Cross, the infant was born dead at birth.
He is the son of Charles G. and Elke Endrich Grabach and was born on September 18. His parents were former residents of the Laud community prior to moving to Germany in January of this year for a three-year tour of duty there. Sgt. Grabach is serving with the 287th Military Police Company in West Berlin.
The surviving relatives, in addition to the parents, include two brothers, Timothy and Charles Grabach; two sisters, Patricia and Carol Grabach, the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William H. grabach, Laud; the maternal grandmother, now a resident of West Berlin.
The body will be returned to the Smith and Sons Funeral Home. Following prayer services, burial will be in the Simon cemetery in Huntington county. The Rev. William James Weber, pastor of the Laud Christian Church, will be in charge of the services here.

Edison E. DeWitt, 73, a resident of Roanoke, died at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 1996, at the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne.
He was born March 1, 1923, in Whitley County. a son of Ray and Euda Martz DeWitt.
On October 11, 1942, he was united in marriage to M. Jane Meyer in Goblesville. She Survives.
Mr. DeWitt worked as a supervisor for Slater Steel of Fort Wayne for 33 years, retiring in 1985.
He was affiliated with Aboite Baptist Church, Fort Wayne and managed the Glenwood Cemetery, in Roanoke for 18 years.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Jane; a daughter, Mrs. David (Linda) Molfenter, Fort Wayne; four sons, Ronald E. deWitt, Bluffton, Brent A. DeWitt, Churubusco, Gary W. Survivors include a son, Lawrence G. (Carol) Bigler, of Huntington; two daughters, Kathleen C. Montgomery and Charlene C. Bolding, both of Huntington; a sister, Patricia Grodrian, of Lafayette; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

He was born February 2, 1932 in Whitley County, Indiana a son of James E. and Sarah Jane Olive (DeWitt) Loe. His formative years were spent in the Larwill area.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army on March 26, 1953. He attained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged on March 23, 1955. He returned to the Albion area.
On September 4, 1978 he was united in marriage to Donna Y. Keyser. They made their home in Larwill. In 1984, they moved to Plymouth.
He was employed at Gatke, Warsaw for approximately 6 years and then Del Monte, Plymouth for 14 years until his medical disability retirement in 2005.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Donna; two sons, Tom Loe and Jeff (Becky) Loe, both of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Norris, Larwill and Angie (David) Schubert, Tipp City, OH; two step-sons, Ron (Gloria) Howard, Nappanee and Michael (Tina) Bailey, Plymouth; five, step-daughters, Cindy Bailey, Leesburg, Candy (John) Lampkins, Plymouth, Brenda (David) Duncan, White Pigeon, MI, Tina Hurley, Plymouth, Melissa (Ron) Johnson, Plymouth; 9 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and a mother-in-law, Donnabelle Keyser, Plymouth.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Frank and Dale Loe; a sister, Netha Walter and step-daughter, Peggy Hurley.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Franklin D. Loe, 65, Ronoke, died at 6:45 a.m. Friday, December 3, 1999, at Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne.
He was born February 9, 1934, in Columbia City, a son of James E. and Olive J. Loe. His formative years were spent-in the Roanoke area with the exception of a few years in the South Whitley and Larwill areas. He graduated from Roanoke High School. He lived most of his lifetime in the Roanoke area.
Mr. Loe was united in marriage to Janice Sue Sheets on October 31, 1983, In Las Vegas . She survives. He was employed with Dana Weatherhead retiring in 1977 with 30 years of service.
Mr. Loe was a member of the Columbia City Moose Lodge 1063, the Columbia City Eagles 1906, and the American Bowling Congress.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Sue Loe, Roanoke; a son, Franklin T. Loe. Columbia City; three step-sons, Allan Richard, Denver, Co., Mark and Wayne Richard both of Huntington; one grandchild; seven step-grandchildren; two brothers, James Loe, Plymouth and Arthur Loe, Larwill; and 5 sisters, Patricia Ulrey, Warsaw, Alice Mort, Pierceton, Imogene Tyler, Huntington, Netha Walter, Columbia City and Catherine Sheets, Larwill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ralpf Loe and Dale Loe.
Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 1999, at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City.
The funeral service begins at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Fritchman of Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church, Roanoke, officiating.
Burial is at Pleasant Chapel Cemetery, Roanoke.

He was born February 24, 1936 in Columbia City, Indiana a son of James E. and Sarah Jane Olive (DeWitt) Loe. As a young boy, his family moved to the Roanoke area. He graduated from Roanoke High School in 1954. In 1955 he moved to Larwill.
On January 14, 1959 he was inducted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged as Corporal on December 31, 1964.
On September 29, 1961 he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Wolfe. They made their home in Larwill until August 2003 when they moved into Columbia City. For the past 23 years, they have spent their summers in Wisconsin.
He retired from Dana Weatherhead with more than 30 years of service.
His memberships included United States Bowling Congress, Huntington County Basketball Hall of Fame, formerly Columbia City Moose Lodge and formerly Fort Wayne Eagles #248.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Mary Lou; four daughters, Christina Loe of Larwill, Laura (Phil) Cameron of Larwill, Rochelle Boschet of Columbia City and Janice (David) Fry of Bullhead, Arizona; a son, Bart (Erika) Loe of Warsaw; eight grandchildren; a brother, Jack Humphrey of Mishawaka; and three sisters, Catherine Sheets of Larwill, Patricia Ulrey of Warsaw and Imogene Taylor of Huntington.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, James Loe, Franklin Loe, Dale Loe, Ralph Loe, Grant Martz and Lester Lindsley; and three sisters, Netha Walter, Alice Mort and Charlotte Loe.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

William H. Fairchild, 75, of Grace Village Retirement Community at Winona Lake, and formerly of South Whitley, died at 1:34 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born on Oct. 4, 1930, in Whitley County, he was a son of Herbert R. and Myrtle (DeWitt) Fairchild.
Serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1971, he retired from the military after 20 years.
On Oct. 9, 1950, he was married to Shirley A. Hess.
He was a member of Sweetwater Assembly of god in North Manchester.
Survivors include three daughters, Deborah (Clifford L.) White of Placerville, Calif.; Wendy (James) Simmons of South Whitley and Vicki (Louis) Brown of Pierceton; three brothers, Wayne Fairchild of Columbia City; Ronald (Patricia) Fairchild of Bippus and Harold (Adenna) Fairchild of Churubusco; a sister, Waneta Gerig of Woodburn; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in deth by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his three brothers - Michael (Angie) Fairchild of Huntington, Ronald Fairchild of Huntington and Teddy (Sarah) Fairchild of Findlay, Ohio; sister - Candy (Bradley) Borntreger of Huntington. His parents preceded him in death.

Harold O. Fairchild, Sr., 74, widely acquainted area contractor and a resident of rural Columbia City, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 6:07 p. m., at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. He had been a patient there since Monday after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home.
Mr. Fairchild was born on November 15, 1936 in Huntington County, a son of Herbert R. and Myrtle L. (DeWitt) Fairchild. As a child he moved with his parents to rural Allen County. He spent his formative years there, and graduated from Jefferson Center High School in 1955.
On November 13, 1956 he was married in Roanoke to Adena Hyser. The couple lived in the Roanoke-area for a period before moving to their present farm home in Smith Township in 1966.
He had previously worked at Zolner Piston in Fort Wayne, and for two years worked along with his brother at Fairchild Custom Butchering. From 1974 to 1980 he was the co-owner and operator of Fairchild & Hyser Contractors, and was the owner and operator of H. O. Fairchild & Sons, Inc. for 19 years, retiring in 1999. In addition to his work as a contractor, he raised cattle, and was engaged in farming in Smith Township.
He was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Churubusco and the American Pinzgauer Association.
The surviving relatives include his wife Adena, to whom he was married for over 54 years; his children Harold "Jack" (Jeannine) Fairchild, Jr. of Churubusco, Pam (Kevin) Pequignot of Columbia City, Brian (Christine) Fairchild of Albion, Brenda (Tom) Brumbaugh of Columbia City, and Adam (Maria) Fairchild of Churubusco; a sister Wanita Gerig of Woodburn; five brothers Wayne Fairchild of Columbia City, Ronald (Pat) Fairchild of Bippus, John Shaw of Churubusco, William Shaw of Reidsville, NC, and Donald (Joan) Shaw of Mt. Airy, NC; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother Mae Fairchild; a sister Carolyn Gilgen; and by four brothers Robert Fairchild, Floyd Fairchild, William Fairchild, and Ray Shaw.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a. m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Churubusco.
The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Tuesday from 1 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p. m. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p. m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Marilyn E. Frazier, age 73, a resident of Churubusco in Allen County died Wednesday night December 29, 2010 in the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. She had only been ill for a very short time.
Marilyn was born December 2, 1937 in rural Churubusco Allen County, Indiana a daughter of the late Wilbur and Evelyn (DeWitt) Eytcheson. She was a graduate of Huntertown High School with the class of 1956, and was united in marriage on November 15, 1957 to Kenneth L. Frazier. He survives. Marilyn worked at Rogers Grocery and Scott Foods for 40 years as a meat wrapper in their Kendallville store. She loved to work, take care of her home, see her grandchildren, Tennessee and do crossword puzzles.
Her survivors include her husband of 53 years; Kenneth, their daughters, Melody (William) Gingery of Powell, Tennessee and Monica Frazier of Wichita, Kansas, a sister Doris Jones of Columbia City, Indiana; 3 grandchildren, her cat Fluffy, several nieces, nephew and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 5, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Sheets and Childs Funeral Home of Churubusco. Indiana with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Eel River Cemetery in rural Allen County. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home. He was born April 7, 1949 in Fort Wayne, Indiana a son of Max Lavon and Gwendolyn G. (Grabach) Bowers Sr. His formative years were spent in Laud. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School and continued his education at Ivy Tech.
On September 17, 1983 he was united in marriage to Lisa A. (Diffendarfer) Herbst. On December 1, 1985 they moved to their present home.
He retired from Zollner Piston with 37 years of service and has worked at Symmetry Medical in Avilla for the past eight years.
An Army Reservist, he was a member of American Legion Post #253 in North Webster and V.F.W. in Churubusco.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Lisa; four children, Scott (Shannon) Bowers, Brian (Roberta) Bowers, Amy (Mark) Taylor and David (Angela) Herbst, all of Fort Wayne; 17 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Marsha (Milt) Grabner of Columbia City; and his father-in-law, David Diffendarfer of Columbia City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half brother, Leston King.
The casual funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at Riverview Cemetery, Churubusco.

Ronald "Ron" DeWitt, 62, of rural Bluffton died at 5:07 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2006, in an automobile accident in Huntington County.
Mr. DeWitt was a longtime teacher, coach and athletic director at Bluffton High School. He started at Bluffton at the beginning of the 1967-68 school year after graduating earlier that year from Huntington College. He earned his master's degree from Ball State University in 1971.
He taught math and general business before assuming the athletic director's position in 1996. He coached numerous athletic teams during his 39 years in the Bluffton school system, including head basketball coach for both the girls and boys programs. He took the Lady Tigers to the state finals in 1998 when Bluffton played in the Class 2A championship contest.
Mr. DeWitt also coached basketball at the junior varsity, freshman and eighth grade levels. He was involved in the boys track program for 13 years, including 10 years as head coach. He coached boys cross country for 10 years and also coached girls track, and both boys and girls tennis.
He was a member of the Indiana Basketball Coach's Association and the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrator's Association.
An active member of First United Methodist Church, he served as an usher and on several church committees over the years. He also was a member of the Bluffton Elks Lodge.
Born on Jan. 29, 1944, in Huntington County, he was a son of Edison and Marcelline Jane (Meyer) DeWitt. His mother survives and resides in Roanoke. He graduated in 1962 from Roanoke High School.
His marriage on Nov. 26, 1966, in Huntington was to Janet J. (Overholt) who survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Kerry (Michelle) Gentis of Bluffton and Mrs. Cecil (Beth Ann) Greck of Asheville, N.C.; a son, Matthew R. DeWitt of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mrs. Linda Molfenter of Fort Wayne; three brothers, Brent DeWitt of Churubusco, Gary DeWitt of Roanoke and Michael DeWitt of Huntington; and four grandchildren.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bluffton High School Gymnasium with Pastor Cindy Osgood officiating.
Calling is from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home, and on Saturday at the high school from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Burial will be in the Garden of Chimes at Elm Grove Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the Ron DeWitt Memorial Scholarship Fund or First We Care.

Rebecca J. Tyler Harrell, 54, a resident of Dimond Street in Huntington, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday (Oct. 15, 2007) at Norwood Nursing Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Harrell was a cashier at Kmart for 19 years.
She was born Nov. 1, 1952, in Mishawaka, to Joseph G. and Imogene Martz Tyler. Her mother, a Huntington resident, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Chasity Tyler, of Fort Wayne, and Desirea Tyler, of Huntington; a son, Joel Harrell, of Huntington; and two brothers, Joe L. Tyler and Richard Tyler, both of Andrews.
Calling is from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at Deal-Rice Funeral Home-Huntington Chapel, where the funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be at Markle Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Breast Cancer Awareness, in care of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes, 338 E. Washington St., Huntington, IN 46750.

David Kelly Kilgore, 35, of Columbia City, died early Wednesday morning, February 28, 2001 at his home.
Born May 15, 1965 in Columbia City, a son of Charles D. "Dave" and Margaret J. Walter Kilgore, he graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1983.
On February 14, 1992 he was united in marriage to Vicky L. Campbell. They made their home in Columbia City, living at their present residence for thye past five years.
He co-founded Kilgore Manufacturing in Columbia City and was an avid bowler.
Survivors include his wife, Vicky; a step-son and step-daughter, Toby Fralick and Amber Fralick, both at home; his parents, Dave and Margaret Kilgore, Columbia City; a brother , Dennis A. Kilgore, Aurora, Ill. and grandparents, Lula and Bill Bowers, Columbia City, and Arthur and Netha Walter, South Whitley.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles K. Kilgore.
The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City, with the Rev. Barry Faucett officiating. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial is at South Park Cemetery.

Chad was born October 23, 1979 in Huntington, the son of Richard E. "Rich" Tyler of Andrews and Kelly M. (Wilson) Tyler of Huntington. Also surviving are a daughter Bailey Tyler of Huntington, a brother Justin R. Tyler of Huntington, a sister Ashley Tyler of Huntington, and a grandmother Imogene Tyler of Huntington.
A time of gathering and remembrance will be held Wednesday November 19 from 4-5 pm preceding the 5 pm memorial service at Deal-Rice Funeral Home- Huntington Chapel.
